The Early Years
The Atlanta Braves were founded in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings, making them one of the oldest professional sports teams in North America. During this period, they captured five National League pennants and two World Series crowns (1914 and 1957).
The Move to Atlanta
In 1966, owner Lou Perini moved the team from Boston to Atlanta, where they were known as the “Atlanta Braves” until 1990. With Hank Aaron leading their offense, the Braves won two consecutive National League championships from 1991 to 1992.
They returned to the World Series in 1995, winning their first title in Atlanta against the Cleveland Indians. The Franchise would have to wait another 26 years to win their next World Series when they defeated the Houston Astros in six games in 2021.
