As one of the AL’s eight charter teams in 1901, this particular franchise spent its first year as a major league club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as the Milwaukee Brewers before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, to become the St. Louis Browns.

Why The Orioles?

The Early Years of The Franchise
The Baltimore Orioles were founded in 1894 as part of the original eight-team National League. They played for two seasons before disbanding due to financial issues and then reemerged in 1901 as part of the newly formed American League.
The team quickly established itself as one of baseball’s best teams and was a dominant force during much of its first three decades, winning five pennants between 1902 and 1924. During that time, they also had stars such as Babe Ruth, Lefty Grove, and Wilbert Robinson on their roster.
1970-1986: A Golden Age for Baltimore Baseball
In 1966, the Orioles moved from St Louis to Baltimore and began a period known as “the glory years” for O’s fans. In 1970, they won their first World Series title since 1948 under manager Earl Weaver’s leadership.
Throughout this period, they continued to be one of baseball’s best teams with stars including Cal Ripken Jr., Eddie Murray, Jim Palmer, Frank Robinson, and others, leading them to six division titles and three World Series championships (1970, 1971 & 1983).
Rebuilding Years + Present Day
Since their last World Series victory in 1983, things have been less than rosy for the Orioles organization. The team has struggled to compete with other teams in its division due to a lack of funds for player acquisitions or stadium improvements, leading to poor attendance figures year after year.
However, as of 2023, the Orioles look to be turning the corner and could find success in the near future due to the up-and-coming talents they’ve drafted and developed.
