Who Owns The Milwaukee Brewers?
The Milwaukee Brewers franchise is currently owned by Mark Attanasio, who purchased the team in 2005. Prior to Attanasio’s ownership, the Brewers were owned by the Selig family. Bud Selig is also the former Commissioner of Major League Baseball.
Under Attanasio’s leadership, the Brewers have experienced success. They made it to the playoffs in 2008, 2011, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 and won their first division title in 2018. The team has also seen a significant value increase, from $180 million when Attanasio bought it to an estimated $1.46 billion as of the 2024 season.
Despite their recent success, the Brewers still face some challenges. They have not won a World Series since 1982 and have never made it past the championship series under Attanasio’s ownership. They play in a small market, which can make it difficult to compete with larger teams that can spend more money on player salaries.
About The Milwaukee Brewers Franchise
The Milwaukee Brewers are a professional baseball team in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Brewers compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a National League (NL) Central division member club.
The team was founded in 1969 as the Seattle Pilots, an American League (AL) expansion team, but relocated to Milwaukee the following year. In 1998, the Brewers joined the National League. They play their home games at Miller Park, which opened in 2001.

The team’s only logo prior to 1974 was an interlocking “MB” in a baseball diamond on their caps; this is still used as the team’s alternate logo. The primary logos from 1974 to the present day consist of the italicized “Brewers” script wordmark above a beer barrel and hops graphic.
The Early Years – Seattle Pilots (1969-1970)
The Seattle Pilots were founded in 1969 as an expansion team by former United States Senator Stuart Symington. Although their stay in Seattle was brief, they made their mark by signing future Hall of Famers Don Sutton and Robin Yount to the team.
Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties, they were forced to relocate after only one season and thus began their journey as the Milwaukee Brewers.
Milwaukee Brewers (1970-Present)
After relocating to Milwaukee in 1970, the team was rebranded as the “Brewers” in honor of Milwaukee’s brewing industry heritage. They played their first game against their former club—the Seattle Pilots—on April 7th, 1970.
They played mainly mediocre baseball for many years until 1982, when they had a breakout season that saw them make it to the World Series, where St. Louis Cardinals’ 4 games would eventually defeat them to 3.
In 2008, with Ryan Braun leading them offensively and CC Sabathia dominating on the mound, they again made it back to post-season play but failed to advance beyond the divisional series stage.
Notable Players and Records
Throughout its history, there have been many notable players that have graced Miller Park with their presence—Yount, and Braun being two of them.
But none quite like Hank Aaron, who holds nearly every major batting record for this franchise, including most home runs (256), runs batted in (853), hits (1120), doubles (209), and total bases (1911).
He also holds Major League records, such as most career RBIs (2297). Though Hank Aaron played for the Milwaukee Braves, he’s still very much a loved figure by fans.
