Who Owns The Phoenix Suns?

Who Owns The Phoenix Suns?

So, who owns the Phoenix Suns? The current owner of the Suns franchise is Robert Sarver, who purchased the team in 2004 for $401 million dollars. Sarver is a businessman and entrepreneur born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. He is the founder and chairman of Western Alliance Bancorporation, one of the largest bank holding companies in the United States.

Sarver has been a controversial owner, as the Suns have only made the playoffs twice in his 19 years of ownership. He has also been criticized for his frugalness, as he has been known to cut costs in regard to both the team’s payroll and arena upgrades.

Under Sarver’s ownership, the Suns have made the playoffs seven times, including three trips to the Western Conference Finals and one to the NBA Finals, where they ultimately lost to the Milwaukee Bucks. The team has also won five division titles (2005-2007, 2021-2022).

According to Forbes, as of the 2023-2024 season, the Phoenix Suns are worth $4.3 Billion. This makes them the 12th most valuable National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise.

Where Do The Phoenix Suns Play Their Home Games?

The Phoenix Suns play home games at the Footprint Center (Formerly Talking Stick Resort Arena). The arena opened in 1992 and is owned by the City of Phoenix, and has a capacity of 18,422 for basketball games.

The Footprint Center is located in downtown Phoenix, near many restaurants and bars. The arena is home to the Suns, the Phoenix Mercury (WNBA), and the Arizona Rattlers (Arena Football League). It hosts other events, such as concerts and conventions.

About The Phoenix Suns Franchise

The Phoenix Suns are an American professional basketball team based in Phoenix, Arizona. The Suns compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division.

The Suns were one of two franchises to join the NBA at the start of the 1968–69 season, alongside the Milwaukee Bucks (now in the Eastern Conference). They were the first major professional sports franchise in Arizona and in the American Southwest.

Some of the best players to have donned a Phoenix Suns jersey include Charles Barkley, Steve Nash, Amar’e Stoudemire, Kevin Johnson, Shawn Marrion, and Alvan Adams. The current team is led by superstar Devin Booker and future Hall of Famer Chris Paul.

The Phoenix Suns have a few rivals, but their main rivals are the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs. The Suns have had some great battles with both of these teams over the years, and the rivalry is still strong today. The Suns also have a rivalry with the Dallas Mavericks, but it is not as intense as their rivalry with the Lakers and Spurs, at least in my opinion.

As of the 2022 – 2023 NBA season, the Suns have made the playoffs a total of 31 times in their history. But have yet to win an NBA Finals despite appearing three times, most recently in 2021.
